In their language \u201cHaitises\u201d translates to highlands or Hills, a reference to the coastline\u2019s steep geological formations with Limestones. Venture deeper into the park to explore caves such as the <em><strong>Cueva de la Arena<\/strong><\/em> og <strong><em>Cueva de la L\u00cdnea.<\/em><\/strong> Caves in the reserve were used as shelter by the Taino Indians and, later, by hiding pirates.
